"History,the most beautiful story."

evolutie 4
We all play or have played at least once a video game either on the computer, on the phone, on the console or on any other device dedicated to this activity. Video games are a complex subject, with so many themes that you can choose from such as: action, simulation, adventure, motorsport and many others. Although we use these games to have fun or simply to relax, many of us do not know their origin. To solve this, I will present you a short and interesting history of the games video.

Beginings

Video games date back to the mid-1950s when computer scientists of the time, out of a desire to experience something new, began to design games and simulations on minicomputers and mainframes. A well-known game that is part of this category is Spacewar!, a game developed by the American company MIT, in 1962. Of course, being something new, people were amazed by these things. The first console dedicated to video games was Manavox Odyssey, and the first arcade games were Computer Space and Pong.

First consoles

Towards the middle of the 1970s, low-cost programmable microprocessors appeared, which replaced logic-transistor circuits, and that’s how the first consoles appeared. Also in that period, the golden age of arcade games took place, the most popular titles being Space Invaders and Pac-Man.

The popularisation of pc

In the 1980s, the console market collapsed due to poor quality or because the games were cloned, and thus personal computers became fashionable, which were much cheaper, and new games developed for them. With this phenomenon, Japan becomes a leader in the games segment video. Nintendo launches its own console in the USA in 1985, helping to relaunch the failed segment. The last part of the 1980s, the beginning of the 1990s brought improved and standardized video games for personal computers. That’s when the famous war between Nintendo and Sega begins, and the GameBoy portable console.

Consoles back in fashion

Beginning in the 1990s, significant advances occurred in the industry, with optical drives (CD-ROMs) and real-time 3D polygonal graphics rendering. Both were easily incorporated into computers and created a market for graphics cards, including the line of PlayStation consoles from Sony, destroying Sega from the market.

Microsoft entered the market with the Xbox line of consoles, fearing that the PlayStation would replace PCs. While Sony and Microsoft were pushing each other’s boundaries, Nintendo was creating a motion-sensing game called the Wii. This helped gathering a large community of players.

Technologic revolutions

After the 2000s, the industry grew as games on mobile phones and tablets also appeared, thus becoming very popular Casual games. Traditional revenue models were replaced by ongoing revenue models, such as free-to-play games , freemium and subscription-based to take advantage of these changes. Hardware and software technology continued to drive improvements in video games, with support for high-definition video at high frame rates and games based on virtual and augmented reality.

Today's gaming

At the moment, the video game industry is enjoying prosperity, being at the peak of evolution, both from the point of view of the very large number of players, but also from the technological point of view, the components of computers, consoles and phones being extremely powerful and capable to process frames as if detached from reality.

The evolution of video games is a long process, starting from some games that we consider simple, up to very complex games that require whole years to be developed.
